Become the next Mayor’s Cadet!

Congleton Town Council is pleased to invite nominations for the prestigious role of Congleton Town Mayor’s Cadet for the civic year 2025/26. This opportunity offers a young person the chance to represent Congleton’s youth, support the Mayor at key civic events, and develop valuable skills that will benefit their future endeavours.

As part of its commitment to inclusivity, Congleton Town Council has updated the Civic Protocol for the Mayor’s Cadet. The key criteria for nominations are as follows:

  • Any youth group or organisation may nominate a young member for the role.
  • The nominee must be a resident of the Congleton parish.
  • The young person should be aged 14-18 during their term of appointment.
  • The group should ideally nominate one outstanding candidate who is keen to take on the role and has agreed to be nominated. The group must submit the application on behalf of the nominee.

The successful candidate will be formally appointed as the Mayor’s Cadet during the Mayor Making Ceremony at Congleton Town Hall on Thursday 22 May 2025, at 7pm. Throughout their term, the Mayor’s Cadet will accompany the Mayor at civic engagements, participate in official events, and serve as an ambassador for Congleton’s young people.

Congleton’s current Cadet, Barney Mitcheson, reflected on his experience: “Serving alongside Town Mayor, Cllr Kay Wesley, as the Mayor’s Cadet has been a fantastic opportunity. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed representing young people at civic events, meeting inspiring individuals, and developing my confidence and leadership skills. It’s an experience I will always value, and I encourage other young people to apply!”

Youth groups interested in nominating a member can download the application form below or contact the Congleton Information Centre for assistance.

Completed applications should be submitted to: mayor@congleton-tc.gov.uk by 22 April 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a brief interview on Thursday 1 May 2025.

Congleton Town Council is dedicated to ensuring an inclusive selection process and encourages nominations of young people of all races, religions, genders, sexual orientations, and gender identities, as well as individuals with disabilities or neurodiversity.

Youth organisations are encouraged to put forward their nominations and take advantage of this excellent opportunity for a dedicated and community-minded young person to gain unique experience and recognition. For any questions or further information, please contact: mayor@congleton-tc.gov.uk.
