Congleton is a great place to raise a family.
In these pages we have put together information and resources for parents, from before your first baby is born and throughout your child’s life in our town.
Getting Support
Check out our Support for families, connecting you to sources of local support and links to advice on your rights, financial support, healthcare, new parenthood, schools and childcare.
Childcare and Schools
For young children Congleton has a selection of nurseries and pre-schools, childminders and other early-years childcare options to choose from.
There are two superb high schools and 9 excellent primary schools in Congleton and surrounding areas.
Family Leisure
Congleton has 12 play parks with a wide variety of activities, including in our main Congleton Park that hosts a large number of family events throughout the year as well as being a lovely place to play, walk, picnic or just sit and enjoy the view.
Our town park has resources for children with particular needs including accessible play equipment. For more services supporting children and young people, see the Family Support page.
Our Paddling Pool, just round the corner from the park, is a family favourite in the warm summer months.
Near the park is the hugely popular Daneside Theatre that presents live performances for all the family throughout the year.
Congleton has beautiful open spaces such as Astbury Mere Country Park, Brereton Heath Country Park and plenty of walks and cycle routes for all the family to enjoy.
Congleton is a pleasant market town with a beautiful Town Hall and safe pedestrianised town centre that often hosts events such as The Maker’s Market, The Food and Drink Festival, The Green Fayre, the Wellbeing Fayre, and music events like Congleton Unplugged and the Jazz & Blues Festival.
We have a lovely selection of family-friendly restaurants and cafes where small people are not only tolerated but welcome, and many of which are designated Breastfeeding Friendly.
Clubs and Activities for Young People
We have several Scouts and Guides groups in the town and they make good use of the surrounding countryside and all it has to offer for camping, walking and exploring. Many of them have a waiting list, so ensure you get your child’s name on it if interested.
We celebrate Congleton’s history and heritage at Congleton Museum, which is great for a family visit.
If your children would like to be on the stage, they might like to join Congleton Amateur Youth Theatre, Centre Stage Youth Theatre or one of the dance schools.
You and your children have a number of sporting options in Congleton, with strong Rugby Club and Football Club as well as a Tennis Club, Cricket Club and several Golf Clubs in the area.
There are a great many other clubs, activities and societies that you and your children can be part of, from music to the arts to heritage and conservation. You can learn about them in our ‘Get Involved’ booklet that you will find at the Congleton Information Centre in the Town Hall.
Many people start their families here in Congleton so we have worked with parents to put together a set of useful information for you in this section of our website. We hope you find it helpful.
